14 May 2008 - 7:06Help finding a economical wood or pellet stove?

Jade Orchid asked:

I’d like to add heat to my new home and I’m wanting something small for emergency power outages or “pleasure” heating. I’d prefer something that was small, but maybe had an optional cooking space (like those old small cook stoves you see sometimes), that didn’t take up too much space, and cost less than $500 dollars.

Thanks! :D

Billy

14 May 2008 - 3:45.Pellet Stove Problem?

penne1986 asked:

I have a Breckwell Pellet Sotve . Last night the flame got very big and then burned down to nothing .After a moment there was a explosion that was strong enought to blow smoke though the front door gaskets. Any one ever had this happen?

12 May 2008 - 20:11Wood/pellet stove or just wood stove advice needed, good ideas ?

Wendy b asked:

I live in Oregon . I would like to get a woodstove or pellet stove. I have heated with an Orley wood stove from 1976-1986, so I know wood stoves& cords of wood. I live in another home & it is all set for a woodstove, nice big stone hearth etc. but … I’m not updated on wood stove info.
I am on a very limited budget. What I’d like to do is find an older Orley stove, stick it in & heat with it. I know there R 1000 codes etc, but .. I’m living on pennies, & I believe it would be so much better than my silly inefficient wall gas furnace. Anyone knowledgable about these stoves ? Bottom line, very low budget, live alone, 1100 square ft home, in my 50s . hmm seems I always forget some important info, if you have practical, not expensive answers, I’d love to hear. I know all about hauling wood, paying for it, chopping it, etc. but don’t know current ways to heat cheaply with wood. thanks
When I looked up pellet stoves on wikipedia there was a note that said pellets are now expensive/

11 May 2008 - 13:49Is there any real cost savings for using a pellet stove for supplemental heating?

btoeps asked:

I found a broucher and it said it used up to 40 pounds of pellets per day and a 40# bag was priced at about $3.50.

9 May 2008 - 3:18Does anyone have parts or know anything about a Whitfield Advantage II Pellet Stove Insert?

Chuck H asked:

The control board for this stove has an Auger on/off switch. This stove was given to me by a friend who ran it for years. The switch for the Auger was bad so we soldered on two pieces of wire to the back of the Control board to a new toggle switch. We used the stove for a little while, it ran fine. Then the toggle switch must of pressed against the metal door for the control board causing a little spark. The augar motor instantly stopped. I unplugged the wires to the augar motor, tested to see if power was going through the actuall control board, and it is. The motor will not run hooked up to the control board, but if I hook up an extension coard from the wall with spliced ends the motor runs fine. There is a little glass fuse on the back of the control board that is Not blown. The stove “starts up” and the combustion and distribution blowers work, but the augar will not.
